Dr. Scott Miles is an Assistant Professor in the ESL Department at Dixie State University. Scott has a PhD in applied linguistics from Lancaster University. He is the Series Editor of the Essential Reading series (Macmillan) and is the author of Book 3 in the series. Scott is a Board Member of the Extensive Reading Foundation.

Jill Nagrodsky

Jill Nagrodsky has an M.Ed. in Reading from Colorado State University. A lifelong educator, Jill taught a variety of subjects for over 30 years in the public schools.and has taught ESL students at Dixie State University for over ten years. She also taught reading and study skills at Community College of Denver.She was a full-time staff consultant with the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study on the Me and My Environment curriculum project at the University of Colorado (Boulder).


Linda Galloway

Linda Galloway

Linda Galloway has spent many years living in different countries (as a child, Libya, Japan and Germany & as an adult, Egypt) where she learned to love getting to know a variety of cultures. She got her master’s degree from Ohio State University in Second Language Acquisition and has taught English as a first and as a second language at both high school, business and university levels. In addition, she spent several years as a technical writer for a bank and also for engineers.


Carol Cutler

Carol Cutler

Carol Cutler began teaching ESL in the late 90s. She has taught in corporate, university, and grade school environments. She is fluent in English and Portuguese, and conversational in Spanish.  Carol graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies from Brigham Young University and a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) from Wright State University.


Rik Andes

Rik Andes

Rik Andes has loved languages and language teaching since his days explaining grammar rules off the top of his head to informal students in Spain. He came back to the US and earned an M.A. in applied linguistics and TESL from the University of California, Los Angeles. He has been teaching English to international students ever since. He is interested in how technology and games can affect and enhance learning. Photography is also one of his hobbies.

Junko Barker has worked as a graphic designer for over 20 years, She attended Dixie State College for general education later getting degrees in Illustration  and computer graphics, She has worked  in the publishing, health, and education industries, She is fluent in both Japanese and English.  She is dedicated to life-long learning and has recently taken up animation, photography and gardening.


Luis Arevalo

Luis Arevalo

Luis E. Arévalo is an associate professor at Dixie State University.  He has worked in language acquisition, proficiency oriented methodologies, cultural and global studies, and economics for over 20 years.  Luis holds a doctoral degree in Latin American Literature and Cultural Studies from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and two masters degrees, one in Spanish Literature and a second one in Economics, from Kansas State University. He is fluent in English, Spanish, and conversational in Portuguese.
