Now we're talking Communicating in English Book 2

Now We’re Talking Book 1 and Book 2

Now We’re Talking is a two-level course which develops all four English language skills, with an emphasis on helping students make measurable increases in speaking proficiency.

Making measurable improvements in speaking

Now We’re Talking – ESL coursebook activities are designed to give students the grammar, vocabulary, and (most importantly!) amount of practice needed to help English language learning students make measurable progress in speaking. The activities are informed by and follow ACTFL standards. If you are not familiar with ACTFL, don’t worry! Just provide your students time to work in your ESL classes with the book activities, and you’ll see their progress.

Characters and Storylines

The course introduces eight interesting and relatable characters and storylines throughout both books to increase student interest.

Now We’re Talking, ESL coursebooks are available with online course shells on the Moodle platform (exportable to most major LMS programs). Course shells provide the following for students and teachers:

Online Course Platform

  • Vocabulary quizzes which recycle words to ensure retention
  • Grammar quizzes
  • Additional reading and listening exercises
  • Student polls and forum activities for each unit

For the teacher, course shells provide:

  • A Learning Management System for grading
  • A Teacher’s File with directions and suggestions for using the books
  • Editable PowerPoint slides for each unit
  • Audio files and scripts
  • Additional classroom activities

As the course shell is on the Moodle platform, teachers have the freedom to tailor the online component of the course to their needs. Quizzes and other online activities can easily be added or removed.

Blue Sage Learning provides full assistance in setting up and enrolling students in the course shells. Access to the course shells is free for teachers and institutions using Now We’re Talking coursebooks. Contact us for more information.

Testimonials

Hello. I am Mirtha Montoro Ponce from Peru and I would d like to share with you my experience as an English teacher using this Book: Now, We are Talking! Book 2. My English lessons have been really dynamic and meaningful. I have been teaching with this book for about five months and my undergraduate students are improving their language skills little by little. They feel more comfortable and self-confident during their learning process.

I really like the way the book activities are organized. Especially those which are focused on Listening and Speaking tasks. Another interesting point to mention is that this book presents clear instructions about the activities our students will do and the book characters are similar to them in their ages and behavior.

Furthermore, there is always a practical and meaningful task at the end of each unit to consolidate and reinforce all the content we have done in class. The book also allows me to adapt the activities according to my student’s pace and context.

“Hello. I would like to share my experience as a teacher so far using the book Now We Are Talking! Book 1. I’ve been teaching with it for about 4 months and I’ve seen some progress with my students. Different from the other books I´ve already worked with, “Now We Are Talking” uses real language, the way native people speak. The grammar explanation is given in a simple way, in sentences, and in real situations. I also like the listening activities. They are very challenging and the students have the opportunity to “feel” the way they speak, and their pronunciation. Another very interesting part of the book is the review. The questions are really interesting, build on what they have learned and match the class dynamics. In conclusion, in my opinion, the best part of the book is the “find the mistakes” activity. This is a wonderful exercise and a great opportunity to evaluate the students. This kind of exercise is very good because they have to identify the mistakes in sentences with mixed grammar, and they identify their own in this task. I´ve enjoyed the book a lot so far and I think my students have as well. Thanks for the opportunity!
